In 1970, J.L. Debord and his wife Sue established Glade Spring Church of God. He served as Pastor for 40 years. The current pastor, James Walls, was led of the Lord to the church. He has been in the pastor since May 2010.

On April 28, 2011, the building was destroyed by a tornado.  Although the building was leveled, the congregation never missed a service!

The Lord knew what the church was going to need, and it was rebuilt better than ever! The new building was completed in 220 days, praise be to God.  Church was back in the building on November 14, 2011. Thank God for Rodney Ray, his family, and his crew at RandR contractors of Abingdon. 
Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.
They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?”
​ But the temple he had spoken of was his body.
